After our Middle Earth XI and LMFAO XI blazed across the interwebs, GFOP Paul King challenged us to come up with an all-gingie team. His wish is our command. We are proud to present the Ginger XI. It’s a team that made a lie of the chant Tottenham fans used to sing to Gary Doherty: “There’s only one Ginger Pele, one Ginger Pele.” And while they may be beaten for pace, this team will never be matched in the melanocortin-1 receptor gene department.
Defenders: Alexi Lalas, Wes Brown, Gary Doherty, John Arne Riise
Midfielders: Paul Scholes, Steve Sidwell, Alan Ball, Gordon Strachan
Forward: David Fairclough, Louis Saha
Goalkeeper: Adam Bogdan
Manager: Gary Megson
This is a weird time for NBA fans in Seattle. I’m writing this at the Rose Garden, where the Oklahoma City Thunder faced the Portland Trail Blazers Monday with plenty of green and gold in the stands. Like all matchups between my former team and my current adopted home team, this is a bizarre…

This is definitely one of the saddest stories I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s just so dark and tragic how these kids were abused, then a bunch of adults work to cover it up.
It may not say it in the grand jury report, but JoePa knew about such behavior in 1998 when Sandusky was investigated by the police after they heard him on a tapped phone admit to a mother that he had inappropriately contacted that woman’s son while in a shower on campus. The prosecutor (missing since 2005 and presumed dead) swept everything under the rug and people went back to their lives. Except Sandusky, who was one of the best D-coordinators in the country. He “retired” shortly after that first incident. Despite being only 55 and the heir apparent to JoePa. So you can’t tell me Joe didn’t know.
So when JoePa was confronted with his old D-Coordinator being a pederast again in 2002, he had to have seen a pattern here. But he still did next to nothing. The man who is regarded in Pennsylvania as of the highest moral order, a paragon of integrity (I mean, he was on Charlie Rose a few years ago spreading the gospel of his teachings about values and integrity), when it really mattered—when his integrity and his moral virtue most mattered—he did nothing. He loved to be considered as “More than a Coach.” And make no mistake, he was, there was no one on that campus more powerful than him—he was the AD and President’s boss for sure. But when times were tough, he was nothing more than a middle manager, reporting something to his boss. His complicity is startling. Especially considering that in the grand jury statement, there is an accuser who was abused five years AFTER JoePa learned about Sandusky molesting a kid in a shower on Penn State property. There are a lot of kids harmed in the intervening years because of JoePa’s inaction.
That’s why what the kids at Penn State did last night was just so ridiculous. They’re rioting to defend an old man’s moral complicity and them some of them had the gall to expect sympathy because the police maced them. Mind you, they were dancing around an overturned TV news van at the time.
Now this is commitment. Kid Keller.

He Finished! And hundreds were at the finish line to cheer him on to the end. What a fantastic story.
By MARIANA ATENCIOMaickel Melamed was born on April 27th 1975. At the time of his birth, Maickel’s umbilical cord was wrapped tightly around his neck, resulting in a limited supply of oxygen to the brain for approximately 7 minutes. This unfortunate event left Maickel with a severe motor…
We at Men In Blazers enjoy both the high and low culture of the beautiful game. In this week’s pod, we were joined by Simon Kuper, a bona fide, grade-A genius, and author of Soccernomics. After the honorable Kuper helped us better understand the art of sportswriting, we selected the…

I’d be interested to see other players’ reactions to Rafa.
Rafa talking with ESPN’s Pam Shriver about the major rain delay and the mini revolt.
There is no reason, really, why the MLB logo should feature a baseball that is in the strike zone, but, I dunno… it kinda bugs me that the logo features a pitch that’s a ball.
So, I altered the logo a tiny bit.
From the MLB web site: Rule 2.00: The Strike Zone
- The STRIKE ZONE is that area over home plate the upper limit of which is a horizontal line at the midpoint between the top of the shoulders and the top of the uniform pants, and the lower level is a line at the hollow beneath the kneecap. The Strike Zone shall be determined from the batter’s stance as the batter is prepared to swing at a pitched ball.
Five years ago today, the Seattle SuperSonics were sold to The Professional Basketball Club, LLC.
That description, while factually accurate, doesn’t quite do justice to the events. They are instead better described by the pit in my stomach when I was told not just that the Sonics had been sold,…
